Stage Five Acquires LopLat to Create Synergy Between Telecom and AI Location Technology
- LopLat becomes a subsidiary, and the two companies will work closely together based on their respective expertise
- Stage Five plans to develop differentiated telecom services that make the most of LopLat's precise AI location technology
Stage Five (CEO Sangwon Seo) announced on the 2nd that it will acquire LopLat (CEO Jahyung Koo), Korea's largest AI location data company. Through the acquisition, Stage Five aims to use AI location technology to strengthen its telecom services and its MVNO brand, pindirect. It also plans to move into new business areas built on location data.
Stage Five will acquire LopLat's shares through a comprehensive share exchange and make it a subsidiary. LopLat will keep its existing business structure after the acquisition. The two companies plan to look for new growth engines together, drawing on their distinct expertise in telecom and AI location technology.
LopLat specializes in AI location technology and location analytics, turning people's locations, visits and movements into digital data. With its proprietary location technology, LopLat can recognize visits to more than 600,000 indoor points of interest (POIs) across Korea. It also has a Wi-Fi AP map of more than 100 million access points. Using only Wi-Fi signals, it can pinpoint locations nationwide, even indoors and underground where GPS cannot reach.
LopLat analyzes the visit and movement data it collects to understand how often people visit places and how they move. It then turns this into insights on offline behavior. Based on these analytics, LopLat supplies location recognition technology and runs a range of businesses, including location-based marketing, foot traffic analysis, and measuring foot traffic around digital out-of-home (DOOH) media to analyze ad performance. Major companies, including telecom carriers, credit card companies and internet platforms, currently use LopLat's insights to improve their services, run marketing and make data-driven decisions.
Stage Five plans to use LopLat's precise AI location technology to improve the quality of its telecom services. It will also combine telecom with AI location technology to launch new, differentiated services. Drawing on the offline behavior insights LopLat has built up, Stage Five will refine services for children and seniors. It will also keep developing new businesses that go beyond the limits of traditional telecom services.
Jahyung Koo, CEO of LopLat, commented, "We expect LopLat's unique AI location technology to create even greater value when combined with Stage Five's telecom services. Using this combination with telecom services as a springboard, we will work hard to help our location technology and insights create new value in an even wider range of areas."
Sangwon Seo, CEO of Stage Five, commented, "This acquisition is a decision to offer our customers more complete services and to diversify Stage Five's business. We will keep strengthening our competitiveness by launching services with differentiated benefits and convenience."
